BE COURAGENOUS LIKE PEOPLE OF KUTCH

Handloom Design Center located about one and half km from the village, which was a Handloom weaving production center. They also provided free training in Designing for One year at this center. The trainees are given a "Khaddi", free of cost on successful completion of the training,  which enabled the trainees to earn. Total expenditure on the centre was Rs. 8,00,000/-, out of which 5 lacs were taken as loan and almost 75% of the loan was paid.

The three members of the family who designed this handloom centre have won President’s Award for their contribution. Now the family has been preparing and are striving for the fourth National Award. It is simply admirable that more than one member of a family has been awarded with such a prestigious award.

It takes almost 3-6 months for preparing a garment to participate in competition for the National Award. With an intention to inculcate the art and skill amongst the younger generation a handloom centre was designed in 1999. It is so huge that  8 “Khaddi” could function at a time in a single place and it also helped the owners to take well care and look after the machines.

But no one can challenge destiny. An unimaginable incident that took place on 26th January 2001, changed this  Designer Centre  in to “devastation” But then one night in month of February, this Designer Centre was filled again with enthusiasm.  Dinner party was arranged along with a campfire .When enquired, What was the reason behind the celebration and happiness, you will be stunned by the answer. They replied, Why to Repent? God has given us a wonderful opportunity to design the Designer Centre in a more creative way.  We are enjoying because we have got a chance to create something extraordinary. Courage is the other name of people of Kutch.They may be physically tired but mentally they are very strong.
